"Polaroids From The Web"

"My favorite artists are my friends" edition

SETH BOGART

- «Burger has the attitude of a trendy major label sealed with an insincere kiss. They are apolitical and deeply anti-intellectual, their bubbly ALL CAPS captions concealing their hoary self-interest, as if smiley emojis erase their calculated intentions, their Wonderbread homogeneity and rapacious need to absorb anything remotely “cool” into their brand to stave off cultural irrelevance»: avrei gradito qualche argomentazione in più, ma il punto di vista di Mariana Timony su Lo-Pie contro la Burger Records, Hedi Slimane e tutta l'operazione "indie rock californiano" di Saint Laurent è comunque interessante e da approfondire.

- «Some have claimed Stereolab were detached, studious, overly intellectual. Listening to their music, though, and with the benefit of hindsight, nothing feels further from the truth: this music is alive, rich with melody, harmony and texture, gesturing towards genres and other artists in all their wild multiplicity»: su FACT "The Complete Guide to Stereolab" a cura di Jon Dale.

- «For us, the whole point of blogging about music is because we’re passionate about it. We don’t want to be sitting here scheduling things and sending a million emails back and forth»: il problema non riguarda davvero questo blogghetto (che faccio ancora da solo nel tempo libero), ma nel mio piccolo condivido totalmente lo spirito del post di Indieshuffle contro le première musicali
Se vi interessa il discorso (per me abbastanza cruciale intorno a come fruisce la musica oggi chi ne deve parlare) si è inserito anche RAC, che ha aggiunto il proprio punto di vista da musicista: «it’s not about the music. It’s become a status check, a symbol of how big you are, an industry calling card».

- «What rings so false about the whole setup is that having these ripped T-shirt and eyelinered Brits snarling through their three-chord set before an unappreciative New York crowd pretty much ignores the cultural anthropology that theoretically is informing the entire show’s story line»: "The Debut Episode of 'Vinyl' Misses a Step With Punk". Tra i tanti commenti letti in giro in questi giorni, scelgo questo di PopMatters perché si concentra su una delle cose che ha più lasciato perplesso anche a me.

- "Which is the best music streaming service?": il Guardian fa un schematica e utile comparazione tra i vari Spotify, Deezer, Apple Music eccetera.

- «“These kids are so advanced—so, so advanced,” she said softly to her screen. Not just in their comedy, but in their business savvy. “They are the most brilliant digital strategists,” she said. “These teens are better marketers than anyone in the game right now”»: per favore prendetevi venti minuti e leggete "The Secret Lives Of Tumblr Teens" di Elspeth Reeve su New Republic, una storia che racconta così bene la contemporaneità che probabilmente fra sei mesi faremo già fatica a comprenderne la grammatica.
